Art Trip to Tate Britain

Written by Tuniz H and Isabella C

On the 17th of January, as an art class, we collectively made it to Dorking station, prepared for our day.

We set off, on to the train and safely journeyed our way into London. After that, we walked to Tate Britain, Mr Harris kindly gave us clipboards to allow us to create our observational studies. This helped to further increase our knowledge and capability, as when we returned home we could place them in our book to improve our work, and to display our expanded understanding of key pieces in the gallery.

Viewing all those amazing artworks in person was one of the most inspiring experiences for a creative individual. Pieces that really stuck out to us were the Pre-Raphaelites. The artists created incredibly detailed and realistic images. We were shocked by the scale of these artwork, never realising the amount of work and detail that went into each of the pieces. In modern art, we enjoyed the graphic and visceral art of Damien Hirst. We found Damien Hirst’s approach to modern art was absurd creating a contrast between life and death. The trip expressed to us that there is more than one way to create visually powerful, moving messages, through art, going forward we are all going to experiment with different artistic styles.

Overall this was a very successful experience, many of us would return to the Tate Britain again, to absorb new ideas, increasing our creative ability, not just in our art but also influencing us to appreciate the world around us.
