Department Information
The RE department deepens student understanding of the ever-changing world around them through the lenses of theology, philosophy and sociology.
Students study three religions – Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. This narrow selection of faith traditions facilitates a curriculum of great depth. By the end of their curriculum, students come to understand that each faith tradition has its own unique frame of reference: an individualised narrative of human transformation.
By weaving the students’ own worldview throughout their scheme of learning, our students come to understand that the way they are in the world can be of significance, and can change the world for the better or the worse.
KS3 Overview
Throughout KS3 students develop their knowledge of the beliefs and practices of the three religions of Christianity, Islam and Buddhism.
Students also study a range of philosophical and sociological units linked to these religions including the question of whether the problem of evil demonstrates that there is no God.
KS4 Overview
All students are required to undertake a year of study as part of the GCSE Short Course which follows Christianity and Buddhism, and includes study of ethical and philosophical themes.
Those who opt for the full course GCSE will follow Christianity and Buddhism including the four themes which are;
- Religion and life
- The existence of God and revelation
- Religion, Crime and Punishment
- Religion, Human Rights and Social Justice
